Our lab is more than just a place of work—it’s a vibrant community where innovation thrives, and young scientists are nurtured through hands-on experience. We believe in the power of teamwork and foster a supportive environment where creativity and curiosity drive our pursuit of groundbreaking discoveries.

Felicia Gomez

Felicia Gomez

Principal Investigator

Dr. Gomez is an Assistant Professor in The Department of Medicine –Division of Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine. Dr. Gomez completed her undergraduate training at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, and her doctoral training in human evolutionary genetics with Drs. Sarah Tishkoff (UPenn) and Alison Brooks (GWU). She has more than 15 years’ experience in the fields of genetics, population genetics, bioinformatics, and studying the role our genome plays in the development of complex diseases. She also has a longstanding commitment to genomic research and community involvement that increases the presence of underserved and underrepresented populations in biomedical research. Dr. Gomez has received numerous research and scholastic awards from: Phi Beta Kappa, The Ford Foundation, Sigma Xi, The American Anthropological Association, and The American Association of Physical Anthropology. She has also received research-training awards from the NSF, NHLBI, and the NCI. Dr. Gomez currently trains bioinformatics graduate students and staff at Washington University School of Medicine. She teaches a course on precision medicine for senior medical students at Washington University School of Medicine, and she is an instructor for the Advanced Sequencing Technologies and Bioinformatics Analysis Course at Cold Spring Harbor, NY.

Mariam Khanfar

Mariam Khanfar

PhD Candidate

Mariam is a PhD candidate studying Hodgkin lymphoma and the tumor microenvironment. Her work applies genomic and RNA technologies, such as whole-exome sequencing and single-cell genomics, to advance cancer research and improve our understanding of tumor-immune interactions.
